Ben Cherington Pretty Much Just Admitted that Bobby V Will Be Fired
During an interview with WEEI, Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington went just short of saying that manger Bobby Valentine will be let go at the end of the season.
Cherington said, “One of the things, as I look back at last offseason, that didn't go perfectly was simply the amount of time that we spent on the manager search and what that did to the rest of the offseason. I would like to spend less time on it this offseason, that's for sure."
That last sentence didn't really leave much room for interpretation.
You can listen to the entire interview with Dennis & Callahan right here.
However, Cherington later told CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman that he didn't necessarily mean Valentine. "It had nothing to do with Bobby,” Cherington said. “But if it came across that way, my mistake.''
He said earlier in the day that he wants to spend less time this offseason finding a manager, yet the quote isn't attributed to Bobby V? C'mon man, just pull the trigger already and let the man go.
