Greg Schiano, Bucs Close To Deal
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are very close to finding their next head coach. According to league sources, the Buccaneers are close to striking a deal with Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano to become their next head coach.
The Buccaneers have also contacted former NFL head coach and recently fired Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman and Oregon head coach Chip Kelly regarding its head coaching vacancy. Just last week, reports were stating that Kelly and the Buccaneers were close to a deal only to have Kelly pull himself out of the running and return to Oregon.
Schiano, 45, was named Rutgers head coach in 2001 and has compiled a record of 68-67. Since 2006, Schiano and the Scarlet Knights have gone 49-28. In 2006, Schiano's Scarlet Knights had one of the best turnarounds in college football history, turning a Big East doormat in a winning program. Rutgers finished out the '06 season 11-2 and finished ranked #12 with the program's first ever bowl victory.
