Usually a big name like Paul McCartney can command millions for a big stadium gig, but he agreed to a surprisingly low amount to perform at the London Olympics' Opening Ceremony.
McCartney was only paid one pound.

One pound equals $1.57 American dollars. Other acts for the Ceremony, Mike Oldfield, Dizzee Rascal, and Emeli Sande were said to have had the same nominal fee.
Danny Boyle's Opening Ceremony, called "Isles of Wonder", was filled with modern British music and British humor.
