Orioles Plane Catches Fire, Clinches Playoff Berth
It certainly was an interesting Sunday for the Baltimore Orioles to say the least.
First, the Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox to put their magic number at one to make the playoffs, then on the team's flight to Tampa, the plane caught fire and had to land in Jacksonville.
A spokesman for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority said that the plane was inspected and was cleared to resume flight. The Orioles resumed the flight and arrived in Tampa with no further problems.
Then later, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lost the second game of a doubleheader to the Texas Rangers to give the Orioles their first playoff berth since 1997.
Baltimore now has a chance to focus on winning the AL East when they open a series against the Tampa Bay Rays Monday night.
