The Big East Is Just Getting Silly
Reports are out that the Air Force is moving from the Mountain West Conference to the Big East. You heard right a program based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado is moving to a conference in which most programs are on the east coast. This benefits nobody.
I know the Big East needed to do something because of the mass exodus of teams, but c'mon Air Force. Air Force now needs to play road games at schools like Connecticut, Rutgers, and South Florida and vice versa. The costs of travel from coast to coast will be extremely high and teams will be tired traveling back and forth.
The Big East has plans to add more teams to save its once mighty conference. Rumor has it that the Big East plans to court Boise State, Houston, Central Florida, and Southern Methodist. I thought the conference was called Big East not Big Anywhere-we-can-get-teams-to save-our-jobs Conference. All, but Central Florida, are not on the east coast and not helping anyone but the Big East executives. I hear Hawaii is looking to switch conferences, so the Big East should take a look as long as they are adding teams from just about anywhere.
I thought the Big East was taking a bit of a stretch when it included Marquette, DePaul, and Cincinnati but this is absolutely ridiciulous. Where will this conference expansion end? When we have two conferences, the Big 54 and the rest lumped into Big America? I know these teams are looking for more money and more of a competitive edge, but this has to stop. Conference expansion is not helping the NCAA, where the mighty get mightier and the meek and feeble get stomped on.
