Tulane safety Devon Walker was seriously injured after a helmet to helmet hit in the last play of the first half in the Green Wave's game against Tulsa.
Walker stopped breathing after emergency personnel removed his jersey and shoulder pads and had to be revived on the field. A tracheotomy was performed on Walker and he is now in the trauma center at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
A trainer for Tulane has conformed that Walker suffered a broken neck and a collapsed lung, but his condition is unknown as of this time.
Walker was injured in the final play of the first half when he tried to tackle Tulsa's Willie Carter, but instead suffered a helmet to helmet hit with his teammate Julius Warmsley. He then rolled onto his back and didn't move.
Several coaches were in tears and the H.A. Stadium crowd was hushed. Fans bowed their heads as a prayer was being said on the field.
Walker, a senior from New Orleans, is majoring in Cell & Molecular Biology.
