Free agent and soon to be 49 year old Jamie Moyer is making a comeback and hopes to sign with a team in 2012.

Moyer missed the entire 2011 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Moyer injured his elbow playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic. The injury was so bad that Moyer's Dominican team's GM, former Major Leaguer Moises Alou, thought his career was over. After all he was almost 48 years old. Most players have long since been retired.

Flash forward to last Thursday, Moyer threw for Major League scouts off of a mound in San Diego. Reports are that the scouts were impressed by Moyer's work. It wasn't the greatest, but considering he is going to be 49 in December, its pretty good. The Royals and Mariners were among the teams scouting Moyer in San Diego.

In Major League history, only three pitchers who pitched at the age of 49 or older, Hoyt Wilhelm in 1972, Jack Quinn in 1933, and the great Satchel Paige in 1965. Moyer might get a contract offer, but it might only be a minor league deal. Jamie Moyer started pitching before I was even born and is older than six current Major League managers.

Moyer last played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2010 going 9-9, but is best remembered for his eleven years in Seattle, where is career finally took off after years as a journeyman pitcher.
