The 2023 season ended in disappointing fashion for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but months later it was followed by the front office aggressively addressing the roster by acquiring Tyler Glasnow, Manuel Marjot, Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
That’s further heightened World Series expectations for the Dodgers, though internally they are focused on moving ahead with business as usual.
The first step toward being able to do so came with the start of the New Year, which was accompanied by social media posts from Dodgers teammates Evan Phillips, Yency Almonte, Miguel Rojas and Walker Buehler.
Phillips reflected on his fond memories from 2023, which was highlighted by the birth of his son, Beau.
Almonte also became a first-time father in 2023, but the on-field results differed from Phillips. Almonte deal with inconsistency throughout the year and also suffered an MCL sprain in his right knee that was going to keep him out at least until the National League Championship Series.
Almonte viewed last year as a learning experience and is looking forward to the 2024 season.
Rojas returned for a second stint with the Dodgers organization and quickly saw his expected role change due to Gavin Lux suffering a torn LCL and ACL in his right knee during Spring Training. Rojas became the everyday shortstop and valued leader in the Dodgers clubhouse.
Buehler had a more succinct message for 2023, which saw him make an initial effort to return from a second Tommy John surgery before shifting his focus to this season.
Buehler is expected to make a full recovery for the 2024 season but the Dodgers are likely to delay when he will begin pitching in order to manage innings.
Dodgers 2024 season starts in South Korea
Prior to making a splash by adding Glasnow, Ohtani and Yamamoto to the roster, the Dodgers already were primed for a big 2024 season that is beginning with Opening Day in Seoul, South Korea.
The San Diego Padres and Dodgers are becoming the first teams to play games in South Korea in MLB history.
