Mike Breen Shares His Thoughts on Epic Call in New York Knicks Win vs. 76ers

According to the New York Post, there have been only six times that Breen used the incredibly rare double-bang, including the one he used to capture the wild scene at the Garden after DiVincenzo’s triple that put the Knicks in front for good.

“Three or four specific things had to happen and they did, so when he hit that shot and the crowd went crazy, it just came out,” Breen, who was calling the game for MSG, told The Post on Wednesday in a phone interview. “It’s not something that was thought of, it just came out for such a spectacular play during this extraordinary sequence in such a huge playoff game.”

The ESPN’s famous play-by-play commentator also admitted to some bias when calling Knicks games since he was born and raised in the Big Apple, but no one’s questioning his use of the call in Game 2. The moment really called for it.

“I’m a lifetime New Yorker, so not the most objective, but there’s no better sound in sports than a roar at Madison Square Garden. That all comes into play, how fans have stuck with the team, and to let them have that moment made it especially satisfying.”

With a 2-0 lead and riding a huge wave of momentum, the Knicks now look to dig the Sixers a deeper hole when the two teams meet again for Game 3 this Thursday at Wells Fargo Center.
