Miami Open champion Danielle Collins continues to win matches. After her successful run in Miami, she started her campaign on clay court by participating in the Charleston Open and knocking out Paula Badosa in the Round of 64.

Following the match, Collins, who last played on clay at the 2023 French Open, said that the transition to clay after continuously playing on hard courts is a bit tricky. She also admitted that playing against Badosa is tough on any given day.

Paula Badosa, who has been dealing with a lot of injuries in the past couple of weeks, had no answer to Collins’ energy on the court. It just took around an hour for Collins to beat the Spaniard in straight sets easily 6-1, 6-4.

There are a lot of elements that go into playing clay-court tennis and I haven't been on the clay since the French Open last year. And you know I was also playing against one of the best, one of our best clay courts on tour. I know Paula has been out with some injuries and it's been a little bit up and down this year. But Paula is capable of playing her best tennis on any given day. And I knew when I came out here today, I was going to have a tough challenge. And Paula was really hitting some bombs out there. Danielle Collins told Tennis Channel

Collins now leads the head-to-head record over the Spanish player 2-0. Before the Charleston Open, they played each other in the 2022 San Diego tournament.

Danielle Collins will face Ons Jabeur in the next round

On Thursday (April 4), Danielle Collins will want to ensure she doesn’t spoil her winning streak when she will be up against second seed and defending champion Ons Jabeur. It will be the third time these two will play against each other.

Collins leads the head-to-head record with two wins over the Tunisian star. They previously met at the Miami Open back in 2022. The result came in the American’s favor as she won in straight sets.

Prior to the 2022 Miami Open, Collins and Jabeur locked horns in the 2021 Indian Wells and the 2020 Roland Garros. Jabeur’s win over the American came in their second encounter.

Collins, meanwhile, defeated Elena Rybakina in the Miami Open final in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to take home the trophy. The 30-year-old is going to retire after this season.
